Activating Offshore Businesses & Building World Class Ports - Speech at Portech Asia 2007

PSA HNN operates five container terminals in Antwerp .

Noordzee Terminal and Europa Terminal are strategically situated along the Right Bank of River Schelde in front of the locks

Behind the locks lie MSC Home Terminal and Churchill Terminal.

MSC Home Terminal is a joint venture project between PSA HNN and Mediterranean Shipping Company, the world's second largest shipping line. Officially opened in June 2005, this terminal is MSC's main hub in Europe .

The newest development at HNN is the Deurganck Terminal on the Left Bank of River Scheldt, which is designed to handle the biggest container ships coming on-stream.

The opening of the first phase of Deurganck Terminal at the end of 2005, and the increase of capacity at the existing terminals have raised PSA HNN's container capacity in Antwerp to 10 million TEUs.

PSA currently has three berths in the coastal port of Zeebrugge , which is an important hub for shortsea business in Northern Europe .

Besides the terminals in Antwerp and Zeebrugge, PSA HNN also operates a barge terminal in the port of Rotterdam at Holland Terminals.

PSA also has two port projects in Italy- Voltri Terminal Europa in Genoa and a three berth project in Venice . Voltri Terminal Europa serves the hinterland of Southern Continental Europe, while Venice Container Terminal, located near the economic centres of North and Northeast Italy , serves as a gateway for shipping lines operating in the region.

We have also invested in Portugal 's Sines Container Terminal that is positioned to be the preferred Atlantic gateway for Portugal and the Iberian Peninsula .

This year, PSA broke new ground with investments in the United Kingdom and Turkey .

Mersin International Port in Southeast Turkey is connected to more than 100 international ports and is a key gateway to the eastern Mediterranean .

Great Yarmouth , on the eastern coast of the United Kingdom , will specialise in shortsea trade and feedering when it is completed in the second quarter of 2009.

In Southeast Asia , PSA has three port projects. Besides its flagship operations at Singapore Terminals, PSA also invested in two single berths in Laem Chabang, which is a key point of entry for Thailand 's container traffic.

PSA recently added Vietnam to its portfolio of global ports with a port project at Vung Tau province. Strategically located near the mouth of the Cai Mep-Thi Vai river, this port is equipped to handle large vessels at its deep water berths when its first phase becomes operational in 2009.

PSA operates the world‘s largest transhipment hub in Singapore, handling about one-fifth of the world's total container transhipment throughput.

PSA Singapore Terminals' four terminals at Tanjong Pagar, Keppel, Brani and Pasir Panjang function as one seamless and integrated facility, that offers connections to 600 ports in 123 countries via 200 shipping lines. This includes daily sailings to every major port in the world.

Everyday, PSA handles about 60 ships, 8,000 trucks and 70,000 TEUs in Singapore .

PSA's business in Singapore is quite unique, as more than 80% of the 70,000 TEUs handled there daily are meant for transhipment.

Transhipment is a highly complex process. One of PSA's strengths lies in our ability to handle large-scale, complex transhipment arrangements efficiently, and value-add to our customers' needs in their hubbing operations.

Our transhipment operations at our Singapore Terminals simplify our customers' operations dramatically. By transhipping at Singapore , which has a strategic location and unrivalled connectivity, this vessel only needs to make one port call to be connected to 67 ports, hence far fewer journeys are required. Daily sailings to every major port in the world means that transhipment often times delivers goods much quicker to the destination than direct calls.

Our ability to handle large-scale, complex transhipment arrangements efficiently, and value-add to our customers' needs in their hubbing operations is one of PSA's major strengths.
