B: Yangshan Deepwater Port Area: Yangshan Deepwater Port is located in the southeast of Shanghai, 32 km from Luchaogang of Nanhui District and 104 km from the international ocean shipping channel. The approach channel measures -16 meters deep. The project began in June, 2002 and operation officially began on December 10, 2005.
The Phase One Project of Yangshan Deepwater Port comprises three parts, the first- and second-stage terminal construction, Donghai Bridge and the Luchaogang Logistic Park. The first- and second-stage terminal construction works have already been completed. The terminal has a total quay length of 3,000 meters, 9 deepwater berths, 1.4 million m2 stacking yard, and 34 portainers, including 13 twin lifting 40ft container cranes first employed in Shanghai. The Terminal is under the control and management of SIPG. Its operation scope covers container loading and unloading, container storage, container stuffing and stripping, freight forwarding, shipping agency, port facilities leasing and repairing, container washing, repairing, manufacturing and leasing, terminals investment, construction, management and port-related business consultation and technology service. According to Yangshan Deepwater Port’s plan, by the year 2020, over 30 container berths with 15 meters depth alongside and an annual handling capacity of more than 13 million TEU will be available.
