Brief introduction of the Lianyungang port

Starting from 1933 and through the development of more than 70 years, Lianyungang port has gradually become an international comprehensive foreign trade-oriented port with various-sized berths and function of handling both containers and general cargoes. Up to now, the port has established trade relationship with ports in over 160 countries and regions. In 2005, the port achieved the throughput volume of 60 million tons and 1 million TEU containers. Now the port has ranked one of China’s top 500 service enterprises.

With the main ports of Japan and South Korea in the radius of about 500 sea miles, and as the cross point of China’s main railways and expressways, Lianyungang port has enjoyed an unique geographic location. The three-dimension transportation network has taken shape with the port as its core. Since the operation of the new Eurasian Continental Railway, the port has become the most convenient and economic sea outlet for the foreign trade from the mid Asian countries and especially from mid China. With the great development of China’s mid and west and China’s entry into the WTO, the outstanding advantages as hinterland-oriented and foreign trade-oriented port is making Lianyungang port as a strategic center for seizing opportunities and speeding development.

For the time being, according to the port’s future plan for one main body and two wings, Lianyungang port is speeding its steps in constructing the large-scale special berths and deep-water channel in order to improve its comprehensive strength. By 2010, Lianyungang port will be built into an international modern key port and regional cargo logistics center with modern facilities, complete functions, scientific management, good profit and beautiful environment.
