Introduction of Rizhao Port

The original name of Rizhao port is Shijiu port. Constructed in 1982 and put into operation in 1986, it is one of the major hub ports of costal areas in China and the oriental bridgehead of New Euro-Asia Continent Bridge.
During the reforming process of port management system, the original Rizhao Port Authority and Lanshan Port Authority realized combination and reorganization on May 18th, 2003 ,and established Rizhao Port (Group) Co., Ltd.
At present, Rizhao port owns two major harbor areas, namely Shijiu and Lanshan port, and 32 productive berths with annual authorized throughput capacity of 75.08 million tons and total assets of 13 billion RMB. Among which:
--Own two 150,000-ton coal berths with the deepest draught and largest berthing capacity and one 50,000-ton coal berth. Currently, with annual throughput capacity of 45 million tons and storage capacity of 4 million tons, it is an important coal-shipping berth and the loading efficiency is always comes up to the advanced level within China. The highest shipping efficiency reaches 9,486 ton/hour, an all-time high of Chinese coal shipping efficiency for single ship. It is credited as “Rizhao Port Efficiency” and officially approved as a new record of Chinese enterprises.
--Own one 200,000-ton and one 300,000-ton mineral berth with annual throughput capacity of 35 million tons and actual throughput capacity of 55 million tons. It is one of the ports with the largest systematic mineral unloading, berthing and storing capacity in China or even across the world;
--Own two 30,000-ton berths and one 50,000-ton berth. The frontage is 844 meters long and the water of dock apron is 16 to 17 meters deep. The current design capacity is 600,000 TEU and 600,000-ton general merchandise. After the containerization reform, the design capacity will reach above 1 million TEU. –Own 2 bulk grain berths, among which one is 80,000-ton bulk grain berth in Shijiu port with annual throughput capacity of 5 million tons; one 50,000-ton berth in Lanshan port with annual throughput capacity of 2 million tons. After the second-phase bulk grain project in Shijiu port, the annual overall bulk grain throughput capacity of Rizhao port can reach above 12 million tons and it is one of the largest bulk grain ports of costal areas in China.  
--Own two 40,000-ton wood chips berths with annual throughput capacity above 5 million tons. It is the only port for wood chip articulating with the highest unloading efficiency of 671 ton/hour and is rewarded as a new record of Chinese transport enterprises;
--Own two 25,000-ton bulk cement berths and one 50,000-ton bulk cement berth under construction. The automatic bulk cement loading system is directly connected with grinding stations of cement enterprises. The transfer ability of bulk cement of Rizhao port in 2006 is predicted to reach 10 million and is the largest transfer port for bulk cement in China.
--Own one 50,000-ton liquid chemical berth with annual throughput capacity of 2 million tons and mating can area of 400,000 cubic meters. It is the largest-scale liquid chemical port in north area of Yangtze River.
   --Own an aluminum oxide port with the largest capacity and most advanced technique in China. It adopts the professional unloading system integrating totally enclosed air entry, unloading and bagging with the most advanced technique in the world. The annual throughput capacity is 2 million tons.   
Besides, the main part of a 100,000-ton oil berth project has been constructed with designed annual throughput capacity of 8.02 million tons. The preliminary work of a 300,000-ton oil berth product is being conducted.
Since the opening of the port, Rizhao port has accumulated to accomplish cargo-handling capacity of 0.49 billion tons, among which 84.21 million tons are accomplished in 2005 with an increase of 33.13 million tons, that is 64.9% up over the previous year. The increasing speed ranks the first in costal ports in China and the increase volume ranks the first in provincial costal ports. In 2006, Rizhao port is predicted to accomplish cargo-handling capacity of 0.115 billion tons, ranking in the list of large ports of billion tons.
During the period of “11th five-year development program”, according to the general idea of “increase capacity, strengthen management, become stronger and strive to exceed double-billion ”, Rizhao port will invest more than 12 billion RMB and construct 23 projects to speed up the construction of “3 centers” of coal, mineral and crude oil storage and transport, “6 foundations” harbor processing industries of steel, grain, paper-making, cement, wood, liquid chemical, “2 systems” of modern logistic system and information system and “1 formalism” of multi-elemental cargo inland transport. Meanwhile, adhering to market-oriented, it speed up the development of ten major cargo transport, namely mineral, coal, container, grain, cement, wood, charred coal, steel, fluidized products and aluminum oxide, etc, and make great efforts to develop new products such as oil and LNG to quickly promote the cargo-handling capacity of the port. By the end of “11th five-year development program”, we endeavor to make both the annual authorized throughput capacity and port cargo-handling capacity exceed 0.2 billion tons, among which the mineral and cement handling capacity striving to rank the first in China and the container handling capacity exceeding 1.8 million.
According to the plan, Rizhao port will finally develop into a comprehensive and modern international logistic hub port with 25.5 kilometers of harbor frontage, 166 berths, 0.58 billion tons of overall capacity, 2483 square kilometers of water area and 43.9 square kilometers of land area. It will be primarily engaged in the transport of bulk commodities such as coal, mineral and oil products, combined with transport of container and other general merchandise in the most advanced level worldwide.
