Brits Win Contract for Moroccan Coal Plant

International Power has won a contract to construct a 1300-megawatt coal fired power plant in Morocco from state power utility ONE.

The facility will be built in Safi on the Atlantic coast about 230 miles south of Rabat, Morocco’s capital. It is scheduled to be commissioned by the end of 2012.

U.K. International Power, in partnership with Moroccan energy company Nareva, landed the job over another consortium consisting of Paris-based EDF and China’s Datang International Power.
