IAPH Exco MeetingShizuoka, Japan9-12 October 2006

The IAPH Executive Committee (Exco) Meeting was convened from 9-12 October 2006 at Hotel Century Shizuoka, Shizuoka, Japan, hosted by Shizuoka Prefecture Government, City of Shizuoka (Port of Shimizu) and Chubu Regional Bureau, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

The meeting saw some 50 participants from 15 countries, where various subjects including revival of IAPH Bursary Scheme (Financial assistance to training for developing ports staff), and selection procedures for a venue of 2011 World Ports Conference to be held in Asia/Oceania Region.

Argentina James, the IAPH Conference Vice President, on behalf of the Houston Conference hosts, updated the participants on the latest status of preparation, including a line-up of speakers. The meeting also featured special sessions on Alternative Maritime Power and LNG handling, where presentations were made by invited experts locally and globally from relevant industries, such as Cavotec of Sweden for AMP, Mitsui OSK Line and Tokyo Gas (the biggest gas supplier in Japan) both for LNG.

On 12 October, the symposium on Tsunami and natural disasters in port and community perspective was also organized in conjunction with the Exco meeting, where President Kornegay made a presentation on the US ports' experience of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005. (FROM IAPH?/P>
