4th President's Meeting of Port & Harbor Associations in Northeast Asia

Dear delegates,
Since entrance of 21st century, port business in China has witnessed a new period of ever highly development with port throughput and container traffic seen rapid increase, at meantime construction of various terminal and deep-water channel projects for crude oil, ores, coal and container are mushroomed at coastal area of China. In mainland of China are 8 hundred-million-ton ports and 8 million-TEU container ports including Port of Shanghai that saw 379 million tons of throughput and 14.55 million TEUs traffic last year. Port of Shanghai is expected to handle 400 million tons of throughput and 18 million TEUs container traffic this year. I am confident all delegates will be better aware of current situation of port development in China through the meeting.
Rapid development in port industry has raised higher demands to China Ports & Harbours Association. Recent years has witnessed crucial system reform in port industry in China with some originally state-owned ports gradually reformed to either share-holding corporations or wholly privatized companies, resulting in port transport marketplace being gradually cultivated and grown. Therefore as an integrated intermediary organization in market economy, port association has played more and more important role. April this year we held the sixth session of China Ports & Harbours Association to elect a new leader team. This newly elected leader team will deal with stewardships more practically to strengthen trade coordination and regulation, to safeguard members' legitimate rights and benefits and to proactively serve them. Meanwhile we will continuously strengthen cooperative relations with ports and port associations in Japan and Korea. I'm confident that thanks to the efforts by everybody presenting here, the port industry in Northeast Asia is certainly to have prosperous and magnificent future.

I cordially wish the meeting success, and wish everybody a pleasant time in Yantai.

Thank you!
