In 2006, Ximen Port Group Co. Ltd. ended with cargo throughput of 36.719 million tons, 18.4% more than the previous year, of which container volume reached 3.019 million TEU, a year-on-year increase of 14.5%, accounting for 47% and 75% of Xiamen’s total respectively. There are 40 berths with a total length of 8,917 m, including 11 berths for vessels of 10,000-70,000 dwt, 12 berths for vessels of 100,000 dwt or above. In addition, 15 berths for 10,000 dwt are under construction, including Haicang1#\Songyu 1#�#�#, which are able to accommodate 100,000 dwt container vessels.
The rapid development of Port of Xiamen has attracted more and more domestic and foreign shipping liners and agencies. There are altogether 24 container ocean-going shipping routes to 130-odd ports in over 50 countries and regions such as Europe, West Coast of America, Southeast Asia and 16 sea shipping routes to Taiwan, Hong Kong, Fuzhou and Shantou, with a total inward or outward liners of 1000 odd per month.
